Great games, good times today. Thanks to everyone who showed up and especially to those who helped set up and clean up (which was pretty damn fun in itself, heh. stay tuned for a video of the shenanigans that followed the event...)

We had a huge turnout that reached ~75 people at its peak and 3 successful tourneys, despite the occasional technical difficulty and our running behind schedule a bit.

What about the Fall Festival did you like the best? What could have been done better? Give us your feedback or relate your favorite moments here.

I have to say that the best part for me was the DS action. 6p Bomberman was ridiculous and getting to play the Ouendan multiplayer mode for the very first time was a lot of fun. It was also really good to see some quality Guilty Gear action... though I can't believe I forgot to haul my stick along with all the other stuff. >.>

The worst part was when the Gameboy SP died in the middle of Pacman Vs!  Well, that actually wasn't that bad.  I dunno, the only thing I can really think of is that there were some times when people wanted to play a particular game on a particular system when those systems were all busy, but there would be TVs hooked up to other systems that no one was using.  (Hopefully that made sense.)  I want to say it didn't happen that often, but *shrug*.  Someone did comment about the sheer number of Smash Bros. that was going on towards the end of the event.

Anyways, I found the entire event very enjoyable.  Getting to play Guitar Hero for the second time, being all suicidal in Bomberman, getting to play Naruto with people who don't rock the game, Pacman Vs., getting my butt kicked in Mario Kart 64...wait a minute, that last one wasn't that fun. Tongue  Maybe I'll come up with some more useful input later on.

Oh, one thing I did think of.  We were able to keep the doors opened the entire event this time, I think that helped a bit with the amount of people who were still coming and going towards the end of the event.  I know we had a lot more people this time around compared to last semester.

Yeah, it was fun, but I thought it kind of sucked that in the end there were a bunch of TVs that remained paused or off. And we couldn't set up any extra Gamecube or N64 because we were lacking an extra AV cable. I guess that's somewhat of a disorganization on our part...but oh well...

I also got so sore by the end...all four of my limbs were hurting, and I had a headache. :?

My two favorite moments were the Bomberman DS matches (six players is great, but it would have been even better with eight - rhyme not intended) and Pac-Man Vs. To think I was only two fruits away from winning too. Sad The turnout may not have been nearly as high as the SSBM tourney, but Pac-Man Vs. is more my type of game.

I sort of wish there had been an extra GameCube there since one of the two always seemed to be playing SSBM and the XBox was nearly abandoned (I don't believe we even had a Halo tournament).

As for suggestions... maybe we could order pizza next time so we don't have to hope there are other events going on in the building that ordered pizza. Oh, and if there's ever a call for a DS tourney Bomberman gets my vote.

I was very pleased with how things went this time.  As far as I can remember, the turnout this time around was bigger than for the Spring Festival, so I guess we are getting a dedicated fanbase.  Kind of bummed that Jigglypuff didn't get me through to the next round, but I don't really mind because I'm sure we'll get to play a lot more in the near future anyway.  Smash Brawl isn't that far off either, but that's another story.

I just wish we could do this kind of thing more often because it's so much fun.

Hey, if you have time, you should come out to the Gamers Club meetings every Thursday from 5:30 - 7:30 @ Physics 204. Just because we're the UVA Gamers doesn't mean we're limited only to UVA students.

First off, THANX to everyone who came out Friday.  It was A GREAT TIME and I hope youall enjoyed yourself.

As for impressions, getting things setup was not as BAD as I thought.  The dolley made it MUCH MORE SIMPLER than last year and getting all the items put together wasn't that hard. PLUS, mad props to NEWCOMB for those 2 TVS; they were pretty kick ass.

Second, I was happy so many people came out, despite the rain.  I had a fear it might deter people and, in the end, it might have for the casual or non gamer.  BUT THE GAMERS came out and in pretty good force.  Much bigger turnout than last year, so AWESOME.

I thought the tournaments, went well.  Smash, ofcourse, the biggest hit but Mario Kart and Pac Man Vs. hella fun and respectable with about 16 people each.  Unfortunately, we didn't do HALO 2.  By the time we were ready to get it going, only 3 ppl who had signed up remained.   Yet, it was still popular along the periphery, so atleast people got to play.

I, too, noticed some tvs went unused near the end, but we were losing #s by that point, so I don't really know how to combat that.  I felt we kept the most popular stuff in the longest and changed things out when people asked or when no one was playing.

The snacks were great; they went fast but our job isn't to feed everyone really.  The early birds catch the worm, I guess.

It might have been fun to actually do that FIGHTING GAME TOURNEY towards the end, but coming to a consensus might have been hard.  NeXt time, maybe DECIDE something beforehand and just go with it.  Guilty Geaer and NARUTO seemed to be the most popular...

All in all, I thought it was a great day.  Maybe a few logistical changes would have been sweet (another nintendo AV cable, knowing the one TV would be grey, figuring out X360 to hook up) but it ran pretty smooth nonetheless.

Heres to hoping neXt semesters is BIGGER AND BETTER

Now that I've gone through the pictures and the video, I've decided it would be nice if we had a little more coverage next time.  I'm not talking about anything big, but possibly a few more pics of the different tournaments, maybe some pictures of finalists. *shrug*  It's kinda interesting seeing the change in the size of the crowd from around 3:30 to around 9:30.

I like the pictures and the video we took after/around cleanup.  That was just a great way to end a nice day of gaming.

More coverage would definitely be a good idea... I was planning to haul my digital camera as well, but I didn't have any room between my 2 backpacks.

On the note about tourney winners... uh, anyone remember who won what? I should probably post the results on the front page like Bobby did with last year's festival...

Next time, we could probably rent a mini DV cam from Clemons. I have a pretty good amount of a/v editing experience (video tech lab ftw >.>).

A trailer for Spring Festival would be pretty badass.  Now all I need is a capture card.

Not sure about SSBM, since Jeremy has all of the info.

But...

Mario Kart 64:
1. Jay Stafford
2. John Cleveland
3. Stephen Davis
4. Amanda Virtudes

Pac Man Vs.:
1. Vicky Chen
2. Alex Tatum
3. Stephen Davis
4. Cody Bowman

All we have to do is get pics from Facebook and we can do a pretty good tournament winners page...

Hmm...Stephen got 3rd in both the Mario Kart 64 and Pac Man Vs. tournaments...that's pretty good...
